Mr. Zwelibanzi Sapula, CEO of the SADC-DFRC, recently participated in an ACS2 public event, “Powering Africa’s Future: A New Facility to Unleash M300 of Clean Power” during the Climate Finance Summit in Addis Abba, Ethiopia to engage on the establishment of the Green Africa Prefeasibility Facility (GAPF).

Why GAPF matters:
The facility is a strategic initiative designed to accelerate Africa’s transition to renewable energy by addressing a key barrier to investment — the lack of high-quality, bankable prefeasibility studies for clean energy and energy efficiency projects.

Mr. Sapula contributed as a panellist and joined closed-door consultations with key stakeholders on:

Structuring of the climate facility

Addressing challenges in its operationalisation

Advancing projects even in less-than-ideal environments

Objectives & Features of GAPF:

Bridge the gap between project concepts and investment-ready proposals

Provide technical assistance and capacity development

Build strong pipelines of bankable renewable energy projects

Foster partnerships among governments, DFIs, private investors, and development partners

Expected Outcomes:

Increased flow of renewable energy investments

Expanded access to sustainable, affordable energy

Stronger regional cooperation for climate resilience and green growth
The initiative is anchored by a tripartite partnership:

SADC Development Finance Resource Centre (SADC-DFRC)

Boston University Global Development Policy Center (GDP Centre)

SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE)
Together, this collaboration is paving the way to unlock clean power and contribute to the vision of Powering Africas Future.
