Advancing Climate Finance, PPPs & Regional Integration in Mauritius

The SADC-DFRC CEO, Mr Zwelibanzi Sapula, accompanied by Learning & Development Lead, Maipelo Stroh, paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Financial Secretary, Ministry of Finance in Mauritius, Mr. Anandsing Acharuz.
The meeting provided a valuable platform to explore strategic areas of collaboration aimed at driving sustainable development and regional integration for and beyond Mauritius.
🔑 Key Discussion Points
✅ Climate Finance – Building on Mauritius’ existing Climate Finance Unit to strengthen frameworks, identify projects, and provide technical assistance for implementation.
✅ Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) – Creating the right enabling environment for PPPs as a model to advance climate-related projects and mobilise private capital.
✅ Resource Mobilisation & Capacity Building – Strengthening institutional capacity through specialists to review structures, mobilise resources, and advise on effective strategies.
✅ Project Preparation Facility – Establishing a mechanism to deliver bankable projects that can attract financing and investment.
✅ Regional Integration – Facilitating cross-border projects to boost regional trade, bridge gaps, and enhance Africa’s production capacity.
✅ Blue Economy & Industrial Pillars – Identifying opportunities in blue projects (such as sea-based energy and island resource maximisation), while also considering the establishment of new industrial pillars for economic growth.
✅ SMME Development – Exploring a dedicated programme for Mauritius to support small and medium enterprises, aligned with regional initiatives.
