Export Development Fund (EDF) Limited or “the Fund,” is a Development Finance Institution (DFI) wholly owned by the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM). The Fund was incorporated in 2012 to provide financial and advisory services to businesses in growth sectors of the economy, aimed at stimulating Malawi’s productive capacity as well as diversifying the economy.
The Fund is mandated to correct market failures and inefficient resource allocation by mobilizing resources for financing export-oriented projects and export enterprises that arise from national development plans. Central to this mandate is the creation of sustainable direct and indirect employment through industrialization and contributing to structural transformation as enshrined in the Malawi 2063 (MW2063) Vision.
